Fishing Report and forecast for the Tampa Bay and Saint Petersburg Area
4-8-2009
Wind wind and more wind have been the rule on the Southshore of Tampa Bay. However, the wind did not affect the snook bite. The snook continue to feed well in there early spring time spots. Redfish still have not made a good appearance on the eastern side of Tampa Bay. However, Reports continue to come in from the Fort Desoto with good catch reports of redfish.
My trips this past week have produced good catches of snook, trout Spanish mackerel and a few redfish (fishing Fort Desoto)
Thursday and Fridays trip produced lots of snook fishing the area from Piney Point north to the Little Manatee river. Our biggest fish measured 32 inches. We also caught several trout near 20 inches.
Sunday we fished near the Skyway bridge on the St. Petersburg side of Tampa Bay along the edge of some deep grass flats. We caught our share of Spanish mackerel as well as trout up to 20 inches.
Mondays trip produced redfish and trout, We fished the Fort Desoto area staying out of the wind catching 6 redfish from 20 inches to 31 inches.
This last cold front should not bother us to much and now that the front is gone I would expect the bite to pick up for the rest of this week.
Water temperatures are in the low seventies and rising. The white bait has moved up on the flats on the Southshore area of Tampa bay. Look for diving birds.
Be safe out there.
